Websites for nonprofits and community organizations

A community pantry home page with get help, donate and volunteer, its programs, pickup times with spots left, a volunteer shift sign-up and an event with sign-ups confirmed by email and text, with example data

A nonprofit or community group's website serves three people at once: the person who needs help, the person who wants to give, and the person who wants to volunteer or come to the next event. Each of them should find their way in on the first screen, and the team should not have to answer the same questions by phone all week.

Sayeda Fatima Food Bank, which serves North Calgary and is open to anyone in need, runs on a site we built that takes hamper bookings, donations and volunteer sign-ups, and walks every family through its rules and a consent page before the booking calendar opens. The Art of Business Networking, a Chicago community for women in business, runs on a WordPress site we built around an events calendar, and we run its Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn each month.

Each section below is tied to one of those builds and to the service page that explains it. Start with the piece that costs you the most today: the free 30-minute assessment finds it, and we come to you, at your organization, at a spot near you or online.

Built for community

What a nonprofit needs, and where we have built it

The jobs a nonprofit or community website has to do. Each one names the build where it runs today and the page with the detail.

  1. Giving made easy, in the order you prefer

Sayeda Fatima Food Bank's Donate page offers e-Transfer first, then GoFundMe, then card payments through a Donorbox form, so a donor sees the way the food bank prefers before the others. The same site takes volunteer sign-ups and hamper bookings.

  2. A volunteer sign-up of its own

Sayeda Fatima's Volunteer page has its own sign-up form, apart from the hamper booking, asking for a name, email, phone, subject and message. On our own software, a website's forms land in NameCRM as matched contacts with a notice to you, behind a public form shield.

  3. Rules and eligibility explained before anyone applies

The food bank's Read Carefully page sets out its rules: one hamper booking at a time, three hampers in total, and two months between pickups, plus every document a family needs. Informed Consent follows, and only then does the booking calendar open.

  4. Appointments that fit the real household

Families book a 60 minute pickup slot that shows how many spots are left. Choosing the household size, from 1 to 12+, opens a name, date of birth and ID set for each extra member. Rescheduling or cancelling asks for a reason and closes 24 hours before pickup.

  5. People who need help find the way in

On Sayeda Fatima's site the menu's Book Reservation item, the I Need Support buttons and the Food Hampers card all lead to the same first step. Families are told a hamper is booked only once a confirmation email arrives, and whom to call if it does not.

  6. Events people can find, register for and add to a calendar

Every event on The Art of Business Networking's calendar has its own page with its Eventbrite link, repeated as buttons on recent events, and Chicago time so Add to calendar lands at the right hour. NameCRM also runs workshop sign-up pages that confirm entrants by email and text.

  7. Social media that sends people to the next event

We run The Art of Business Networking's Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, designing the posts, reels and stories each month. We rebuilt its Instagram profile with links led by Save your Power Hour seat, and set up a keyword reply so anyone who sends PURPOSE gets an instant answer.

Most groups start with a site that explains the programs and takes gifts through the tools they already use, then add bookings, events or social media as the team grows.

FAQ's

Frequently asked question

What should a nonprofit or food bank website have?

A clear way to ask for help, a way to give and a way to volunteer. Sayeda Fatima Food Bank's site has all of them, with e-Transfer, GoFundMe and card giving on one page, a volunteer form, a privacy policy, and a consent page before any form that asks for ID.

Can people book appointments or pickups on our website, and can it follow our rules?

Yes, and the rules can come first. The food bank's Read Carefully page sets out one booking at a time, three hampers in total and two months between pickups before the calendar opens. Each pickup time shows how many spots are left, and rescheduling or cancelling closes 24 hours before pickup.

How should a nonprofit handle the personal information people give in a form?

Explain it before you ask for it. Sayeda Fatima Food Bank's Informed Consent page comes before its booking calendar and says what is collected, why, and how it is protected. The Art of Business Networking's contact form asks for a privacy consent tick linked to its Privacy Policy before it sends.

Can our website handle event registration and reminders?

Yes. Every event on The Art of Business Networking's calendar has its own page with its Eventbrite registration link, and events carry Chicago time so Add to calendar lands at the right hour. NameCRM, our own software, runs workshop sign-up pages that confirm each entrant by email and text and can schedule follow-up messages.

How much does a website for a nonprofit or community group cost?

It depends on what the site has to do. A site that explains your programs and links to e-Transfer or Donorbox is a smaller job than bookings with intake forms and consent pages. We publish no flat price: you get a written estimate after the free 30-minute assessment, GST on top.
